MENTORING

Processing

Many young people need guidance and positive role models as they progress through life. The Equineimity Mentoring program provides these experiences for youth by introducing them to kind and gentle horses. These horses invite them to bond, connect, and communicate on a visceral level, allowing access to thoughts, feelings and desires that might otherwise remain hidden.

Students of the mentoring program learn about horses and horsemanship, as well as themselves. Over time, they establish relationships with these remarkable animals that help them gain trust and confidence in themselves and their abilities. Working with the horses, they learn to set goals, develop problem solving strategies and ultimately expand life skills. The Equineimity Response Journal gives them a way to record and reflect upon their lives in both written and artistic form.

Frequent contact with the horses is an important component of the mentoring program and regularly scheduled sessions are the most beneficial. For young people who have participated in the program and are moving on to college or the workforce, follow-up coaching can continue via phone, email and the Internet.

*Advance booking is required for sessions, but no prior experience with horses is necessary for any Equineimity program.
